INSTRUCTION FOR CONTRIBUTOR TO JOURNAL OF MYCOPATHOLOGICAL RESEARCH

SCOPE OF THE JOURNAL

Journal of Mycopathological Research is an open access (OA) journal dealing with all aspects of basic and applied mycology, plant pathology, bacteriology, virology and other allied disciplines. Each manuscript submitted to Journal of Mycopathological Research must be an original research report that has not been published elsewhere either as a part or full; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

ARTICLE TYPE

Three types of manuscripts can be submitted to Journal of Mycopathological Research for publication : Review articles, Full length research articles and Short communications.

Review Articles: Review articles will include award lectures of Indian Mycological Society and on important and emerging topics of above disciplines.

Full length Research Articles : Manuscripts should be of a length of 3-10 pages (A-4 size) generally and the length of the paper should be consistent with the extent and scope of the data presented in the manuscripts.

Short Communications : Manuscripts should not be more than 3 pages (A-4 size) in length and it must represent either a preliminary report or a complete data of an important research contribution.

Wherever a new genus or species of pathogen is being reported, the authority for identification and the IMI, HCIO, ITCC, etc for the type collection should be indicated. The report should be appropriately supported by tables, figures and references as required.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPT

Authors should submit their articles to the Journal of Mycopathological Research on line to facilitate quicker and more efficient processing. Electronic submission substantially reduces the editorial processing and reviewing time and shortens overall publication time.

PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPT

Manuscripts should be submitted in Word Format. Use a normal, plain font (e.g.,12-point Times Roman) for text. Use italics for Latin names. Prepare manuscript in the following order:

• Name, address, telephone and e-mail of author to whom all correspondence should be sent.
• Title of article, author(s), full name(s) institution address (es) with pin code.
• Abstract and Keywords.
• Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Acknowledgement(s), Declaration and References ( All these headings should be upper case)
• Table(s),
• Figure(s) should include Graph(s) and Photograph(s)

FORMAT

Title : The title should clearly indicate the important aspects of the article and preferably in not more than 100 characters and space.

Abstract : Limit abstract to one paragraph of 250 words.

Keywords : Please provide 4-6 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes. List in alphabetic order the words or phrase that are not in the title and abstract.

Introduction : Give a concise account of the previous works done indicating clearly the importance of the works tackled in the present case. Point out clearly the existing problems and mention whether all the problems have been tackled or not. If not the reasons may also be stated.

Text : After the introductory statement the rest of the material should be presented in Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Acknowledgement, and References. Further subheading may be used, if necessary, but excessive fragmentation of the text should always be avoided.

In measurement SI units should be used. Numericals should be used before standard units of measurement.

Commonly used symbols and abbreviations should be used. Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.

Latin binomials should be italics and include citation of authors in all cases at the first introduction in the text.

In all cases, indicate the source of cultures and mention the designation of cultures obtained from or deposited in a recognised national or international collection centres. In all cases the voucher culture or specimen(s) should be deposited in a national or international collection centre and to mention the same in the text with the deposit number of the said institute.

The term cultivar should be mentioned for agronomic and horticultural varieties of the crop and the complete source of the cultivar should be clearly mentioned in the text.

All the experimental results should be presented with statistical analysis. The statistical methods should be described in detail.

Figures and Photographs : Each figure including Graph(s) and Photograph(s) either black and white/ colour should be labelled with the figure number. Captions should be clearly described so that the figure is intelligible individually. Photpgraph(s) in jpeg format should not exceed 2 MB file size each.

Tables : Each table should be labelled with table number. The title and legends of the tables should be self-explanatory so that each table is intelligible.

Declarations

Author(s) should declare that they have no conflict of interest in publishing the article.

If working with animals, author(s) should also declare that the research has been reviewed and approved by an appropriate animal care committee of the Institute.

References : Reference cited older than 20 years in Introduction and Discussion are not encouraged. The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. References should be given in alphabetical order of the surname of the author. Name of the journal, books, monograph and thesis should be in italic. Volume number to be bold font and starting and ending page numbers are to be given.

ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS

The editors of JMPR support commonly held standards of ethics and principles shared by scholarly professional publishers. Authors who submit manuscripts to JMPR must agree to the Author's Declaration confirming the following:

• The manuscript, either in its entirety or portions of the manuscript, is not published, in press, or submitted elsewhere. IMS will not publish a paper that contains data that have been or will be published elsewhere. An exception is the publication of review or retrospective articles, where the source of previously published data is credited and published figures or tables are used with permission.
• The results presented are the authors' original work and accurately and completely represent the results of the research performed. Plagiarism, data fabrication, selective reporting of data, or inclusion of data from other, uncredited sources are unethical and not acceptable.
• The authors credit and cite the relevant previously published work that influences or impacts the methods used or the interpretation of results and conclusions.
• The authors have acknowledged the source of funding for the research and disclosed to the editor(s) any perceived conflicts of interest with funding sources or author affiliation.

Violation of these standards will result in rejection of the submitted manuscript and may lead to sanctions including suspension of submission privileges to any of the society's journals.

Authorship

Those who submit papers to JMPR should respect the value of the research of their peers by not devaluing authorship. Each author should have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the design, conduct, analysis, or interpretation of the study. Each author must approve the article before it is submitted for review, as well as the final version of the article to be published, and be willing to take public responsibility for his or her contribution to the paper. In addition, the first author and the corresponding author are expected to take public responsibility for the entire paper.

Corresponding authors must confirm the following:

• All authors have reviewed the manuscript and approved its submission to Journal of Mycopathological Research.
• All contributors who deserve authorship have been included.
• The manuscript has been submitted solely to this journal and is not published, in press, or submitted elsewhere.
• All authors agree to pay the publication fees if applicable, and the research complies with the IMS Publication Ethics Policy and is in adherence to the legal requirements of the study country

Plagiarism

JMPR uses the program iThenticate®and/or Turnitin® to check submitted manuscripts for plagiarism. IMS does not tolerate plagiarism and will implement a two-year submission ban on authors found guilty. If authors reuse text from previously published, copyrighted materials, they must cite the original publication to avoid copyright infringement. In the Materials and Methods section of a manuscript, it may be difficult to avoid using wording that is the same as wording used by other writers. In such cases, authors may simply be asked to revise the duplicated passages.

Large Language Models (LLM)

The use of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) assisted technology to improve grammar, language, and writing is permitted if the resulting content remains representative of the author’s own original work and does not generate new concepts, results, or perceptions within the manuscript.

The use of AI-generated image manipulation is not allowed.

IMS aligns with the COPE position statement that “AI tools cannot meet the requirements for authorship as they cannot take responsibility for the submitted work. As non-legal entities, they cannot assert the presence or absence of conflicts of interest nor manage copyright and license agreements.” It is expected that Authors are solely responsible for the content of their manuscripts.

REVIEW OF MANUSCRIPTS

Each manuscript will be reviewed by two independent reviewers. Each reviewer will send his/her specific recommendations to the Senior Editor(s) of the journal. Author should upload corrected manuscript along with point-by-point reply to the comments made by the reviewers/Editor. Finally, Editor-in-Chief is responsible for considering the suitability of manuscripts for publication in journal. Acceptance of the article will be sent to author.

Proof Reading

The purpose of the proof is to check for typesetting or conversion errors and the completeness and accuracy of the text, tables and figures. Substantial changes in content, eg. new results, corrected values, title and authorship, are not allowed without approval of the Chief Editor. Corrected proof must be sent back within 72h of receipt.

Processing charge is fixed as per number of printed pages. Separate processing charge is fixed for colour figure. Corresponding author will be responsible for paying the processing charge in full which should be paid within 15 days of intimation of payment, otherwise publication will be delayed.

COPYRIGHT

Authors submitting a manuscript for publication in the Journal of Mycopathological Research do so on the condition that, if it is accepted for publication, copyright in the article shall be assigned exclusively to the Publisher including the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media.

The Publisher will not impose any restriction on the author for using the published article for his/ her own personal uses.

OFFPRINTS

Corresponding authors will get a soft copy (pdf) of their article once it is available online. Corresponding authors are also entitled to receive a printed copy of the journal.
